"UN Security Council should stand in solidarity
with survivors of rape in conflict"
The UN Security Council resolution on Sexual Violence in conflict gives “unprecedented attention regarding the plight of survivors and their needs.” Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad pen a letter in strong support of the resolution. The resolution is survivor-centred; it emphasises holistic care, reparations and a survivor fund. Unfortunately, some countries do not agree with the resolution because of the certain political language. This puts the resolution in danger of not going through or ending up weakened and toothless. They call on the Security Council: “Without the will of the international community and imposed consequences, crimes will be continue to be perpetrated.”
