The Hague, Netherlands — 24  June 2026. The Dr Denis Mukwege Foundation is marking ten years of working alongside survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) with the launch of two new resources designed to strengthen survivor-centred responses in practice: a digital course on Survivor-Centred Holistic Response to CRSV and a Practical Guide on the Survivor-Centred Approach.

Bridging the gap between principles and practice

Developed with input from practitioners, experts and survivor networks, both resources aim to bridge the gap between well-established principles and their consistent implementation in real-world settings. While survivor-centred and trauma-informed approaches are widely recognised as essential, translating these principles into day-to-day work remains a challenge across sectors and contexts.

A practical and accessible digital course

The digital course, first developed in Ukraine and designed for global application, provides an accessible, self-paced learning tool for professionals working with survivors. It has been co-created with partners including RedR UK and reviewed by members of the Ukrainian survivor network SEMA Ukraine, ensuring that lived experiences are meaningfully embedded throughout. The course is available on multiple platforms and in several languages to support wide accessibility.

A guide grounded in lived experience

Complementing the course, the Practical Guide draws on a decade of experience supporting survivors in conflict-affected settings. Developed in collaboration with survivor networks, including SEMA, the Global Network of Victims and Survivors to End Wartime Sexual Violence, it offers practical, experience-based guidance to help practitioners, policymakers and institutions embed survivor-centred approaches in their work.

Supporting global change

Together, these resources are intended to support organisations, care providers, governments, and international actors in operationalising survivor-centred principles more consistently and effectively. By centring survivor perspectives and leadership, they help strengthen global knowledge and practice in responding to CRSV.

The Mukwege Foundation aims for these tools to serve as a catalyst for more accountable, inclusive and survivor-led approaches across all areas of policy, practice and programming.
